Kevin Sheedy’s journey through football has been a remarkable one and today he added to that – albeit in a small way. Sheedy arrived at Essendon Railway Station today on board a train as part of his Silver Jubilee celebrations. He has done press conferences in some unusual places but this ranked up with the best of them.

Captain Sunday Saver greeted Sheedy on the platform and he is encouraging all Essendon supporters to get to the game at the Dome on Sunday via public transport and buy a Sunday saver ticket. It is the perfect ticket if you're heading out to support the Bombers at Sunday games, the $2.50 flat-rate ticket allows unlimited travel on Sundays across Zones 1, 2 and 3.

And it is the Bombers next Sunday game against Fremantle that Essendon is focused on to ensure it takes home the four points.

""The Dome presents a different sort of match than what would have been at Subiaco,"" Sheedy said, confident of his chargers chances.

""We need the whole team to lift, and I think if everybody puts in that extra two per cent in then we can probably have a win. Sometimes the inspiration can be within your team and it can sometimes be by the youngest player who is in your line up and I hope our players can all look at that.""

But he also conceded a lot rides on the result of the match.

""I think the next month is going to be crunch time for Essendon and it will start this week. And after this game we are on the road for a while.

""Last night we trained the best we had in quite some time, having a rest on Monday and getting the energy levels up and right and having a Sunday game has that little bit of extra time under our belts.""

And Sheedy believes there are similarities in his very first team he took over to what he is working with now.

""1981 was a pretty difficult year like its been so far this year, but we had nine players who went on play in Grand Finals in that side. The main thing in the end is trying to find those players who will get you into a Grand Final. And I think that’s where we are at the club at the moment.""

Last night, at The Dome a dinner was held in Sheedy’s honour to celebrate his Silver Jubilee and it is something he will remember forever.

""It was a special occasion because a lot of the people who appointed me to Essendon were there and a lot of good people over many many years and we all got together to have a bit of a party and a bit of fun.""
