Essendon forward Stewart Crameri said since the Bombers’ 2011 campaign had finished, a number of players had been working hard on their own individual training regimes ahead of the official start of pre-season.
“A number of boys have started their pre-season early, but I think it can only be a good thing, especially for us younger guys,” Crameri said.
“We have started back to gain a bit of a base, so we’re ready for the pre-season as well as the season ahead.”
The Bombers’ 2011 leading goal kicker said new high performance manager Dean Robinson had already made his mark, working with the players to develop their bodies and respective training regimes.
“Dean is very good and he is changing a lot of the programs. I think a lot of the boys are going to get an early shock, but we’re definitely going to be better off for it in the 2012 season,” Crameri said.
“Anthony Long is back running and doing all the drills with Dean, and Dean is making him train really hard which is a good sign to see.”
Midfielders Jason Winderlich, Brent Prismall and Courtney Dempsey were all making significant in-roads with their training programs, following knee injuries sustained during the 2011 season.
“Brent Prismall has just started running and Winderlich and Dempsey are running with me and the rest of the group. They’re all really starting to get back in to it which is great for them.”
Crameri said he was excited by the prospect of Scott Gumbleton completing an injury free pre-season, after the 23-year-old returned to the gym yesterday in prime condition.
“Gumby was moving very well and was looking good in training yesterday,” he said.
“Young Luke Davis is also looking really good too, so it will be exciting to see what this pre-season holds for the both of them.
“All the guys got a bit of a shock yesterday to see how hard training was, but we’re going to get used to it and we’re going to all put in a big pre-season campaign. I’m definitely looking forward to it.”
