The match day report laid against Fremantle’s Steven Dodd for charging the Geelong Cats’ Gary Ablett during the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The panel said that no high contact was made and the amount of physical force used was not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was required.
The match day report laid against Essendon’s Jarrod Atkinson for engaging in rough conduct against Hawthorn’s Grant Birchall during the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Atkinson had his eyes on the ball at all times and had his arms up to prepare to take a chest mark. At the last moment, he became aware of Birchall and turned his body in a bid to minimise contact. Contact was made to the ball and there was no direct high contact between Atkinson and Birchall. Therefore, the action was not considered unreasonable in the circumstances and no further action was taken.
The match day report laid against Port Adelaide’s Robbie Gray for striking North Melbourne’s Scott Thompson during the third quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The impact was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
Contact between the Western Bulldogs’ Matthew Boyd and Collingwood’s Heath Shaw from the third quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The panel said that Boyd blocked Shaw from running to the next contest. Boyd did not have an option to contest the ball or to tackle the Collingwood player. During the contact, there was an accidental clash of heads. The panel determined the force used was not excessive in the situation and the incident was not deemed unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.
