The Tiwi Bombers have cemented their place in history by securing their first Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) Premiership over Nightcliff in Darwin tonight.

Over 7000 fans gathered at TIO Stadium to witness the Bombers claim their first flag in their second grand final and fifth finals series appearance in as many years.

The Bombers secured the awe-inspiring victory over the Nightcliff Tigers 9.20 (74) to 9.6 (60).

Essendon Football Club is a proud sponsor of the Tiwi Bombers and has a strong affiliation with the Tiwi Islands.

Throughout the years, there have been many social issues on the Tiwi Islands and the recent induction of the Tiwi Bombers to the NTFL competition is assisting in noticeably reducing these wider issues.

The grand final victory is a significant milestone for the small community of the Tiwi Islands.

First year Tiwi coach Leigh Crossman said the win was as important for the players as it was for the wider community of the Tiwi Islands.

“This is the top of the tree for me in my time in the game,” Crossman said.

“It’s just fantastic for everyone associated with the Tiwi Bombers and that goes from the players, to their families and the coaching staff.”
