Essendon Football Club is saddened by the death of long serving trainer and Essendon life member Ed Bowen, who passed away recently aged 90.

Former player and Essendon general manager Barry Capuano said Bowen will be sadly missed.

“He was a great bloke Eddie,” Capuano said.

“Very quiet and unassuming, but highly respected by all the players he looked after as a trainer.”

Bowen, who was honoured with Essendon life membership in 1980, worked at the club as a trainer for 33 years from 1955 to 1988.

His son Lee Bowen said the Essendon Football Club meant the world to his father.

""He would sit on the same wooden chair in the outer at Windy hill every week,"" Lee Bowen said.

""He lived and breathed Essendon and he just loved it when the Bombers won, it made him so happy,""

Even on the day he passed away Bowen was preparing to watch his beloved Bombers play.

""He actually died sitting waiting for the West Coast game to start and he had all his Essendon gear in front of the TV in his barracking position,"" Lee Bowen said.
