HILLE AND LALICH PUT HAND UP FOR SELECTION
The Essendon VFL side is out of the finals after going down to Carlton by 12-points in yesterday's Elimination Final at TEAC Oval, Port Melbourne. The Bombers were in touch all day but just couldn't get past their more experienced opposition. There were however a number of players who put their hand up for senior selection - among them David Hille and Judd Lalich. Hille picked up 19 possessions, took four marks and kicked three goals in a fine display while Lalich collected 20 touches and made four effective spoils. Given their height, both will be considered at selection as the Essendon senior side prepares for it clash with Richmond.

Other good players for the Bombers were Marc Bullen who had 20 posessions, Ben Goodard (19), Cory McGrath (19) and Damien Peverill (18). Essendon coach Terry Daniher said his side had given it their best. ""I couldn't question their endeavour - they threw everything at Carlton but we just didn't finish off the job,"" Daniher said. ""We got the ball inside 50m enough but the forwards struggled to find space and take marks.""
The Bombers cause wasn't helped when Dean Wallis left the field with a hamstring injury early in the first quarter.
Matthew Lloyd is just four goals away from reaching 100 goals in consecutive seasons. Lloyd played a sensational first half against Richmond and kicked six goals for the match to take his 2001 tally to 96. Had he not missed three matches this season through suspension he would have easily achieved the milestone. While winning this Friday night's qualifying final is of paramount importance, the Lloyd milestone will be in the back of the minds of all Essendon fans.
