Essendon and Carlton - two proud sides on the rebound doing battle in front of 80,000 at the MCG - it doesn't get much better. The Bombers have been stung by their loss to Port Adelaide last weekend while the Blues have lost three of their past four. And there is plenty on the line this Sunday. An Essendon win would almost certainly sew up the minor premiership for 2001. Despite last weekend's loss to Port Adelaide, Essendon's form still reads pretty well. Contrary to one misleading media headline, the hunger is well and truly there at Windy Hill. Just one week ago the Bombers came from 69-points down to beat the Kangaroos. Hardly the feat of a side that is satisfied with its lot.
