Essendon chief executive Ian Robson is confident the club’s new high performance centre near Melbourne Airport puts the Bombers in a strong position in the coming years.

As the ovals begin to take shape, Robson said the new facility would have a positive impact on and off the field.

“It will be a move into a home that will be a generational leap for the Essendon Football Club, our players and staff.”

“We are really pleased that we are on track now and all things being well, with a winter that is not too wet we will hopefully be in position to move in by March of next year.”

Robson said the high performance centre was a key area of focus to enable the club to retain star players including Michael Hurley, David Zaharakis, Patrick Ryder and Brent Stanton.

“Part of the new facility was that we were very clear that one of the first planks of our free agency strategy was to ensure that we were in the best position to retain our talent,” Robson said.

“Hopefully we get close now to re-signing quality players on our list and we are really pleased that we are on track to do so now.”

Robson urged all Bombers fans to get excited about the club’s first home and away match of the season in just nine days time against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.
