It was Watson's first official training session with the Bombers and he had a couple of old mates there to help him out. ""Joshua, Steven and I used to knock around together when we were kids and kick the footy around in the rooms. We haven't seen that much of each other in the past couple of years, but our dads are pretty good mates,"" Watson said.
Watson has just returned from a two week holiday with father Tim in London after finishing his year 12 studies on November 19th. The 17-year-old is looking forward to getting into preseason training, but is not quite sure what to expect. Although his famous father did offer him the following words of wisdom. ""Dad just said be prepared for preseason because it is very hard,"" Watson laughed.
18-year-old Steven Daniher has been training with the Bendigo Bombers squad and is hoping to get picked up in the forthcoming Rookie Draft. ""I am definitely hoping to get drafted and would love to come to Essendon. I have grown up around the club and it is a fantastic place,"" Daniher said. Daniher has played the past two seasons with the Oakleigh Chargers in the TAC Cup and just completed year 12.
Joshua Madden has also just completed year 12 and received AFL clearance to train with the Bombers today. Although the 17-year-old did not nominate for the draft this year, he is expected to apply next season. ""I will play another season with the Calder Cannons and take it from there,"" Madden said.
With Jobe Watson already on the list, Essendon fans will be watching with interest to see if another two famous names join the Essendon line-up in the future. You can see it now – Madden taps to Watson, who bursts through the centre, has a bounce and kicks to Daniher on the lead. Daniher runs around his opponent and goals from 50m to put the Bombers in the lead.
