""Welcome Ian. Essendon is a large club, with potential, hence a growing supporter base. Are we all going to fit into the Docklands stadium in the coming years? Secondly, perhaps the club tap into our interstate supporters by using social events and link in the local football club affiliate at BBq's... I join the AFL Club Support (and don’t get to vote on anything!) and get a better seat package with direct with Essendon. Are we able to fix this please? Congratulations again. Kind regards Phil ""
- Philip Nelson

Ian Robson: Essendon’s principal home ground is Etihad Stadium and we have an agreement with them until 2025. Our supporter base is growing but we are not at capacity in some seating areas at the stadium so there is plenty of room for all those who sign up asa member in 2010.

The club has nine regional supporter groups (SG’s) and seven interstate SG’s which have good relationships with local football clubs along with our affiliate clubs and events are held throughout the year. Contact names can be found on essendonfc.com.au or you can call the club membership manager.

AFL Club Support members are classified as Essendon members and DO get full voting rights.

""Welcome Ian to the EFC. Would it be at all possible to review the Club's current ""recognition"" policy on ALL memberships, and not just the fortunate ones who have a perfect record of continuous membership. I know of one 50 plus year member who missed one season in the 1970's,and is only considered ""worthy"" by the Club to be recognised for only half of her years as a member. I myself, as a member going by ""my proof of records"" for 35 years, am only credited for 7 of those years.. There must be many more people in similar scenarios... PT 1...end…""
- Noel Shields

""Ctd PT 2.…. While it is magnificent for the Club to see fit to focus on the Members who possess perfect records, and give them due recognition, so much more goodwill can be gained by showing due respect to many more Members as well. Surely not too difficult to identify the different ""status"" of each type of Membership record, like ""C"" for continuous Membership,""T"" for total years of Membership... etc...etc... I am sure each Member can prove their total years of Membership, to assist the club with time consuming research.. Hopefully MANY still have their yearly M'ship tickets.. Sincerely Noel Shields 016606""
- Noel Shields

IR: Thanks Noel. There are some good suggestions in your question and I have passed them onto the membership department for their consideration.

""Hi Ian, Welcome to Essendon. Can you advise what benefits members can look forward to receiving in 2010. Hawthorn seemed to do their membership packages really well and look after members with recognition & extras. Regards Mark.""
- Mark Petterson

IR: Hi Mark, I have been working closely with the membership department and can tell you there will be a number of new benefits in 2010. See our website for details.

""Welcome to the Bombers Ian. Could you please get Adidas to straighten our red sash like it used to be. Just compare the original Puma jumper sash to this Adidas one, and you will see what I mean. Adidas came in and somehow, were allowed to made it curve, bend and droop, which looks very wrong. Please get them to restore our proud Sash to its former glory by straightening and tightening it across the chest. ""
- benzina artel

IR: Hi Benzina. The Essendon sash has had a curve from the players’ left shoulder to their right hip for many years and I am assured that the design has not changed because of adidas coming onboard. This year, however, the adidas jumpers were tighter fitting which might make the curve stand out more.

""Welcome Ian, the big bodies of Geelong, St Kilda, Adelaide and Brisbane have been difficult to match over the past few years. What is the club doing to develop our team into a bigger bodied side that really do well in finals and when we play interstate. Do we have some strong up and coming ruckmen ready to take the next step? ""
- Rodney Broadbent

IR: Without wanting to comment too much on on-field matters, Essendon has a well respected high performance team who we have faith in. We must recognise, however, that it takes time for players’ bodies to mature. I believe our young playing list will be physically better prepared for the 2010 season due to their development over the past few seasons. As for the second part of your question, in 2010 we look set to have David Hille, Paddy Ryder, Jason Laycock and Tom Bellchambers fighting for spots in the ruck so I am confident we will have plenty of depth and big bodies in the ruck department.

""Your views on Etihad Stadium vs MCG as a home ground, do you think we need to look at getting back to the G' for membership growth and to play at a stadium were finals are played.""
- Kerry Georgiou

IR: Kerry, it’s very early days for me in that sense. At the moment we are very focused on fan development and enhancing the game day experience at Etihad. We have a long-term commitment to that stadium and were excited about the growth potential whilst obviously enjoying the big games like ANZAC Day at the MCG.

""Ian....welcome to EFC, and every good wish for your future success. Please ensure that at the next Chricton Medal night the Club Song is played!! regards. ""
- Ross Greenaway

IR: Ross, I think that is a fantastic idea.

""Ian, please do not let Brendan Fevola go enywhere else but Essendon!!! Don't you agree? Welcome to the Essendon FC and good luck!!!""
- Angelo Frizzi

IR: Angelo, we made a firm decision about where our list is going and, whilst acknowledging Brendan’s talent, we are very confident in our young men and the succession strategy post Lloyd and Lucas.

""Do you miss Tassie? I've only been away four years and I can’t wait to get back!!""
- Claire Petrie

IR: I’ve been away from Tasmania for a long time but certainly going down there with Hawthorn over the last five years was enjoyable. I’ll enjoy going back there on holidays.

""I was told your father is John Robson who played for Richmond and StKilda. Is that true?""
- david rosta

IR: Yes it is. Sadly for me, I wasn’t able to play a senior game for St Kilda in my time there.

""We were told on September 16th of the re-alignment with the Bendigo Bombers for seasonsd 2010 and 2011, a decision that surprised me. What is the structure of the new alignment and when are we going to hear the reasons behind this decision?""
- Jeff Forster

IR: Whilst no one would be content with the on-field outcome, Bendigo still plays a crucial role in the development of our younger players. We are reworking the structure and how that will sit next year with where games will be played and everything else and we are looking forward to making those announcements so that fans can see the plans. We’re fundamentally reworking the current model and we’re confident with the results we can achieve both from the development perspective and the win-loss sense.

""Ian welcome aboard. Ian I am very concerned we have recommitted to the EFC-Bendigo alliance, this has been a disaster for our club, why will things now be different?""
- Stephen McNamara

IR: Hi Stephen, I understand people’s concern and we are working on the alignment (see my answer above).

""Ian is one of your aims to grow the supporter base and make us the premium club in Melbourne? We also need to make the Bendigo partnership work for both clubs sake, do you agree?""
- Mark Ridgway

IR: Without question, members are the lifeblood of any football club. They pay their annual subscriptions, they have a voice in the democratic process but we also want to grow the supporter base at the club and part of that strategy is underpinned by our independent website and the engagement opportunities.

""Ian its not a question, I just wanted to say thank you for coming to the bombers and how impressive your speech was last night at Crichton Medal night, our table all agreed. Hope your enjoy yourself at our great club. Cheers Gwenda (High Mark member and club member since 1975)""
- Gwenda Warfe

IR: Thanks Gwenda.

""When you were in Scotland were you Rangers or Celtic ?????""
- tom amos

IR: Neither, I’m a Scotland fan.

""How did you enjoy life in Scotland compared to the Aussie life?""
- Bill Leighton

IR: Fantastic, the Scots and the Aussies have a lot in common. I will always have fond memories of our time there.

""Welcome to the Bombers. Our club does not condone the type of behaviour shown by Alistair Clarkson & Campbell Brown in the last round match. Coming from Hawthorn were you upset by what happened and will you maintain the high standard of behaviour we expect from our players?""
- Cynthia McKenzie

IR: I thought the comments of Paul Hamilton in the aftermath of the Round 22 clash showed a level of resolve about how Essendon wants to see itself portrayed and respected by its opponents in such circumstances.

""Congratulations on your appointment Ian. Your professional background certainly looks impressive. I’m sure everyone wishes you well in your new role and that you are instrumental in assisting the club to achieve sustained success on-and-off the field. As has been stated, you spent five years at Hawthorn whilst they were rebuilding and putting in place certain models and structures to achieve the ultimate prize which they did so in ’08. How would you liken the situation here at Essendon compared to your time at Hawthorne? ""
- David Husk

IR: It’s a very different sort of challenge given where Hawthorn were at in 2004. In that sense I’m excited to have the opportunity and the privilege to continue the legacy and outstanding work of Peter Jackson over 14 years in cementing this clubs’ base as a power in the AFL. The growth challenges the game will bring to us in the next three to five years are what excites me

""Ian the club is going into its 3rd year with a new head coach. After 2 years at the helm Matthew Knights has not improved the win/loss ratio compared to the 2007 year which to a certain extent has divided many EFC supporters/members. If the Forum on The Hanger is a true indicator, many supporters/members have expressed concern over the contract extension given to Matthew Knights recently. Can you tell us why this was given at this time instead of waiting until mid-way through the 2010 season?""
- David Husk

IR: The Essendon board have faith in the direction Matthew Knights is taking the club and he was given a contract extension to provide security and allow him to finish the job he has started. We firmly believe he is the right man for the job. What he has achieved in two years has been impressive and we have a young and exciting list that is improving. Stability is very important at a football club and I was happy to make this announcement.

""This website provides an opportunity for bomber SUPPORTERS around the world to stay up to date and participate in discussions. What are your intentions with this site? ""
- Jeff Forster

IR: The engagement with supporters on days other than game days is an incredibly important part of our strategy to communicate with our fans. We need to acknowledge their support and make sure they feel absolutely connected with everything were doing and our independent website is important in doing this.

""First off, congratulations Ian. My question is, what are your KPI's to making Essendon the most powerful club in the AFL? Thanks, and best of luck.""
- Andrew Edwards

IR: Ultimately, for everyone involved in the club, the most important KPI of all is for each and every one of us to play our part. We need to grow the business to underpin investment and we understand we have 16 flags and counting and we are committed to growing that tally

""When you say 'assault on a flag next year', do you literally mean next year? Peter Jackson last night said he thought we had a long way to go and we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves.""
- Jeff Forster

IR: I think it’s important to take a yearly focus and not get so caught up in the highs and lows of week-to-week outcomes because the aim of every club at the start of every year is to win the flag. Whether we’re quite mature enough in terms of games played, in terms of preseason’s undertaken, height, weight, skills and so on our performance will tell us that.

""Dear Ian, One of the few criticisms I had of PJ was his lack of investment in the football department compared to most other teams in the competition. Do you plan to increase spending in this area? If so, how much of an increase could we expect to see?""

IR: There can be no doubt that it’s not about spending the most, its about spending the smartest so the level of investment now required with development coaches with football technology, with assistant coaches, with facilities only becomes more and more challenging each and every year. The football club response to that is we have to compile those resources in a manner that allows us to give our players every possible chance to be the best they can be.
