Some of what the fans had to say:

""Good in and under player in the forward line. Always works hard to keep the ball in the forward line. Disappointed to see him delisted.""
""Struggled with injury and couldn’t make it as a regular in the side. Will be better utilised at other clubs.""
""Shame to see him go, gives a 100% but size, injury and opportunity have hindered him. Deserves a chance some where else at another club. Good luck Gary, you and that mark will not be forgotten.""
""Somewhat starved of opportunities and also injured for some of the season. Would have liked to have seen him used on the ball a bit more - but now he is gone!!""
""An exciting player who really plays with passion. Need to get the ball more and become consistent through a game. Sorry to see him delisted.""
""I believe he offered the team something in the forward line over the latter part of the year. A shame to see him delisted.""
""Suffered from injury and never looked 100% fit upon his return. Lack of ground time may have attributed. Lack of speed always a problem and didn't kick enough goals. Had probably 2 poor seasons, but hope he does well elsewhere but not against Essendon.""
""Gary really lifted at the end of the season and was playing some really good football, it is a great disappointment to see him go.""

THE WASH UP:Essendon fan's felt Moorcroft struggled with injury in 2002, particularly in the first half of the season. They felt he started to hit some good form in the later part of the year and put in a good performance against Collingwood in Round 20. Some were disappointed to see him delisted but others felt he did not have the best 2002. Fan's said he had been a good contributor over the years for the Bombers and that a change of scenery and more ground time will see him return to his best.

MARK HARVEY SAYS:
Gary always represented to me what football is all about - a guy of five foot eight, always in your face, has played footy all his life and footy is his life, and whenever he went out there he always gave it his all. He was a great servant of the club - he did it tough, he got taken off the list, then put back on the list and to see him go on and play 100 games with this footy club was sensational. He has a fierce determination and his last six games for us this year were fantastic. It really took us to a long way of where we ended up. We were battling and he really lifted. We will miss him in a number of ways and I have no doubt that if Gary has a good preseason, he will play every game for Melbourne next season.
