In only his seventh game of AFL, 20 year old Laycock played inspired football and had an important impact on the game especially in the first half. Laycock spent the afternoon in sharing the ruck duties with Aaron Henneman and also played in the forward line snaring two goals.
He finished the afternoon with 18 possessions - nine kicks and nine handballs - as well as seven marks and seven hit outs.
""It’s terrific for Jason that he has be nominated for the award, he’s been at the club for a couple of years now and we have always thought that he was going to perform on the bigger stage,"" recruiting manager Adrian Dodoro said.
""What we are seeing now is just a glimpse, because I think in a couple of years time when he gets his body right and develops he will be one of the more exciting big men of the competition.""
Laycock was drafted to Essendon from the Tassie Mariners at the 2002 National Draft 1st round selection at number ten overall.
Laycock now joins Kepler Bradley as Essendon’s second National Bank Rising Star nominee for the year.
