Football fans have even more reason to cheer each goal during this weekend's Indigenous Round with QANTAS donating $50 for every six-pointer.

The donation will go the The Long Walk (TLW) - a charity partner of the Essendon Football Club - whichs aims to improve Indigenous wellbeing by raising awareness and supporting Indigenous leadership projects that promote culture and work for change.

Kim Kruger, project officer with TLW, said the QANTAS donation would be put to good use.

""The projects undertaken by TLW wouldn't happen without the support of many people and organisations and we welcome this donation from QANTAS,"" Kruger said.

""It would be good to see a very high scoring round of football and I hope all AFL defenders take it easy on the forwards this weekend.""

Kruger said TLW has four key projects that the organsation is supporting in 2009. They are:
  • Indigenous cultural exchange (this involves artistic skills-sharing between Wadeye in the Northern Territory and Dandenong in Victoria).
  • Indigenous studies in schools (this involves introducing non-Indigenous students to Indigenous history and issues).
  • Indigenous Kids are On the Ball (which involved putting  100 Indigenous kids through Essendon's On the Ball program).
  • Fellowship for Indigenous leadership (which funded two 'emerging leaders' in regional Victoria this year).
Dreamtime at the 'G is supported by DESA Australia.
