Jamie Cooper’s notes on the first section of the painting are:
“The famously fiery Merv Neagle has gone off tap. One night at training Sheeds gave Merv a bake and sent him from the track to re assess his attitude. Instead Merv reassessed and rearranged the senior coach’s locker. The story goes that Merv first he put his fist through the door before scattering Sheedy’s clothes and contents across the change room. He then walked out and went home for the night. Note the coach imprint on his fist and the whistle flying through the air.
“What else would Vander being doing post game (or pre game for that matter) but sitting back with his feet up with a beer and a smoke?!! Glenn Hawker was often a partner in crime and was known for his late night dancing attempts, no doubt lubricated by trying to keep pace with “the flying Dutchman”.
