The Essendon players recently attended an advanced driver education course at Calder Park Raceway and Bomber star Justin Blumfield was glad he attended after a golf-cart collision was narrowly avoided at yesterday's Essendon Football Club Corporate Golf Day. JB takes up the story. ""I was driving the golf cart off the course at the end of the day and did a U-turn when one of the groundsman came flying down the hill in another cart,"" Blumfield recalled.

""We both slammed on the brakes and managed to just miss each other. It was pretty lucky because he was going pretty quickly,"" JB said. But that wasn't the end of it. ""The bloke then took off in a hurry, clipped my cart and the bumper bar was ripped off. I couldn't believe it.""

As usual, Justin's teammates felt plenty of sympathy for him as he picked up the bumper bar and looked sheepishly at his stricken cart. ""That could only happen to you Blumfield,"" was Joe Misiti's attempt at consoling his fellow midfielder as he walked past him with a grin from ear to ear.

The Preston Motors sponsored Golf Day was a great success with former Bomber player and now Dick Reynolds Club chairman Greg Brownproviding the highlight of the day. Brown aced the 143m par three 16th with a perfect six iron. And while Brown was over the moon, he couldn't help but curse that it hadn't happened three holes earlier - a $16,000 Holden Barina was up for grabs on the 13th courtesy of Preston Motors.

Bomber midfielder Jason Johnson again showed he is not only a great footballer but a high-quality golfer. JJ won the longest drive award by a space. Teammate Mark Bolton also showed a liking for the fairways, winning the straightest drive award.
