Essendon big man David Hille is set to make a return from injury as early as next week. The Bombers ruckman has been nursing a minor knee complaint for most of the pre-season but is now back in full training and ready to resume competitive football.
Bombers coach James Hird said he was tempted to select Hille in this week’s NAB Cup semi final against St Kilda.
""We will give him another week. He's trained very well throughout the last two weeks but we just want to make sure he's done the work needed before he plays a game,"" Hird told Bomber TV.
Hird said the return of experienced trio Jobe Watson, David Zaharakis and Heath Hocking would add some grunt to the Bombers midfield against the mature bodied Saints.
“Jobe and Heath add some real energy around the ball and some big bodies around the contest and David’s ability to win the contested ball but also use it very well will help us on Friday night,” he said.
Despite the run of good form this pre-season, Hird said the expectations of the group hadn’t changed.
“For our boys, we want to see improvement in the way we play,” he said.
“We are more worried about what we do out on the field and show some improvement week in week out and so far we’ve been able to do that.”

Essendon will be boosted by the return of captain Jobe Watson ahead of this Friday night’s NAB Cup semi-final against St Kilda. Watson, 25, returns to the side after being rested last week against Melbourne, along with Heath Hocking, David Zaharakis, Kyle Reimers and Sam Lonergan.
