The Essendon footballers remain undefeated against the Australian cricketers after the teams tied in today’s 3 mobile Six-a-side showdown at Windy Hill. Despite a gallant 57 run performance from Brad Hodge continuing his Perth Test form, it wasn’t enough for the Aussies with both teams making 127 runs.

The Bombers represented by James Hird, Matthew Lloyd, Scott Lucas, Brent Stanton, Dean Solomon and Andrew Lovett were out to make it two in a row after their nail biting one run win in 2004.

However the Aussies led by Shane Warne and boasting test players Adam Gilchrist, Brad Hodge and Matthew Hayden also called in former champions Merv Hughes and Dean Jones to even the score.

Matthew Lloyd starred again for the Bombers with the bat, hitting some big sixes to make 36 runs in his two overs at the crease, while James Hird was not far behind with an entertaining 35 runs.

Scott Camporeale got into the action for his new club, acting as the 3 mobile third umpire. Umpires John Barnes and John Buchanan were required to call on the new Bomber to get involved with some close calls.

With Christmas just around the corner, it was a great afternoon of fun with fans getting up close and personal with some of the biggest names in Australian sport. The gold coin donation entry raised $4,241.10, with the proceeds to be split between the Royal Flying Doctors service and Essendon Football Club’s community program On the Ball.
