Strengths: Cupido’s upper body strength means he is difficult to beat in a one-on-one contest and can take a great contested mark. His high skill level also means he rarely wastes a possession and can deliver the ball with pinpoint accuracy. He also has great leg speed strength and acceleration helping him evade opposition defenders and create forward opportunities.
Position: Cupido will be used mainly at half-forward and will add speed and goal kicking power to the forward line. With the possibility of Lucas playing at half-back, Cupido could become an important avenue to goal for Essendon. The development of his endurance could also dictate a move into the middle for short stints.
2003: Cupido is one of the most exciting players going around and will add much needed fire power to the Bombers forward line. Cupido has the speed and strength to be damaging to opposition teams and has the ability to dominate a game providing he is 100% fit. Cupido knows what it takes to play at the elite level and his lack of senior opportunities at Brisbane have made him even hungrier to succeed. He has been an avid Essendon fan all of his life, so it was a dream come true to be drafted to Essendon and be given the number 13 guernsey – the number former club champion Michael Long and his childhood idol made famous.
Sheedy says:Desperate to play for Essendon Football Club. He struggled to get a game with Brisbane during their two Premiership years and he still has a lot of work to do. However he has the talent and ability to become an excellent player for this club, he has the goal kicking ability to replace Gary Moorcroft and could become a midfield player when fitter.
