Both from South Australia, selected by the Bombers in the 2004 national draft, Monfries and Slattery have made an impact on the Essendon team since their arrival.
After playing 12 games in his debut season, Monfries has held his spot in the senior team in 2006 not missing a match to the end of Round 14. Quickly bringing his tally to 26 career games, he is seen as an outstanding character and touted as a future leader of the Bombers.
The future also looks bright for Slattery who has made his presence felt in the Bomber’s midfield since joining the club. Adding another seven games to his four from last year, his aggressive nature strikes fear in most opponents. With maturity beyond his years, Henry shows professionalism in his commitment to football.
Essendon football manager Dominic Cato is extremely pleased that Essendon has re-signed the two players with such bright futures.
""It’s very good news for the club. Obviously we are investing very heavily in our future and they are two terrific young men who have shown good football ability. So it is good to have them secured for the next couple of years"", Cato explained.
""We see both Angus and Henry as long-term players at the club and certainly they will be excellent in the coming years.""
