Darren Bewick’s nine goal performances against Geelong in the 1996 centenary game kicks off the segment as part of the club’s new Fox Footy show The Hangar.
Bewick was playing his first game back following a knee reconstruction and put on a show in the centenary re-enactment game.
“We dressed up in the old gear, we had to have a picture taken before the game out on the ground and we had hats on like they did in the old days and had different types of jumpers” Bewick said.
Bewick went down the coaching pathway once he retired in 2000 and is currently coach of the Eastern Rangers in the TAC Cup competition.
“Unfortunately most of the boys that I coach at the moment were not around when that game was on,” he said.
“I just have to tell them how good I was, but it was a good night.”
On Family Day, Essendon revealed it newest rookie to the team with Kia Motors Australia coming on board as a co-major sponsor in 2012. As a part of the club’s new Fox Footy show The Hangar, proudly presented by Kia and True Value Solar, Essendon fans were asked to relive their first experience with the red and black.
