Essendon senior coach John Worsfold says he was delighted with Joe Daniher's spectacular return and how his side's game style flourished after half-time in its come-from-behind win over Hawthorn at Adelaide Oval on Thursday.

Daniher finished with 10 marks and three goals from his first match in 467 days, sparking the Bombers' revival which saw them overcome a 36-point half-time deficit to prevail by 16 points.

"You just very quickly remember how good a player he is," Worsfold said.

"My comment at my press conference yesterday was that it's good for Joe and it's good for us, but it's good for footy – and I think everyone will be happy to see Joey back out there playing footy and enjoying himself.

"He's been committed to getting himself back to this point. He's had setbacks, it's been frustrating and there's no question he would have had doubts at some points about what's going wrong here.

"But all the way through he's been open to working with a team to get him back playing."

Worsfold said he couldn't be prouder of the belief shown by his charges, who were rewarded with an 11-goal avalanche in the second half.

"I'm proud of the way they're committing to what we're trying to build. I'm proud that they didn't run out in the second half disappointed and flat, but still believing in it (game-plan) and committing to what we've said we want to work towards," he said.

"The boys are committed to it, absolutely committed to it. If there was any question that the players were even half committed to it, then it wasn't going to work. For it come together in the second half is a credit to them.

"Hopefully people started to see the style of footy we're working on. Our job is to commit to that even harder so that it becomes consistent within a game and week to week."

The Bombers will have a five-day break before facing West Coast at the Gabba on Tuesday night.

Worsfold said late out Michael Hurley "should be available" after failing a fitness test for an ankle injury on Wednesday, while Conor McKenna would also be in the selection mix.
