The Essendon Football Club has joined in the tsunami relief effort by contributing $10,000 towards the appeal for victims of the tsunami disaster in Asia and Africa.

Players, coaches, directors and staff members at Essendon all agreed to contribute the money so desperately needed after the Boxing Day disaster.

The club has also said it aims to raise more money in the coming weeks to assist in the relief effort in Asia and Africa.

The AFL, 16 AFL clubs (including players, directors, coaches and staff) and the state football bodies of Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia all agreed to make a total contribution of $300,000 to go towards the victims of the tsunami.

The money contributed went towards the World Vision Appeal via the international charity cricket match that was staged at the MCG on Monday night between Asia and the Rest of the World.

The total amount of money raised at the MCG was more than $14.6 million, all of which will go to World Vision in order to aid the tsunami relief effort.

3 mobile, major sponsor of the Essendon Football Club and Australian cricket team also made a significant contribution to the appeal on Monday night.

For every run scored in the match, 3 contributed $1000. With 576 runs scored between the sides, 3 mobile’s total contribution was $576,000.

Anyone wishing to make a contribution to assist the relief effort should contact World Vision on 13 32 40.
