Disciplinary action against Mark McVeigh has resulted in a big boost for the Bendigo VFL side this week.

It means the 28-year-old Essendon star will play for the Bendigo Bombers against the Casey Scorpions at Casey Fields this Sunday.

Coach Adrian Hickmott hopes that the veteran midfielder will give Bendigo the leadership they need to get over the line.

“I want to see Mark McVeigh's leadership qualities that we all know he’s got,"" he said.

""We’re all human, and we sometimes let our guard down and he has done that, but we expect him to uphold the core values of the game and the club.  He’ll be good helping out our young midfield at Bendigo as well as Tom Bellchambers in the ruck.

""I need him to encourage the younger guys to communicate and perform well.""

Returning after eight weeks out is Essendon-listed player John Williams.

“John Williams has had an unlucky run, he's been out with a broken finger and then missed last week after injuring himself during a training session.  We’re looking forward to him coming back,"" Hickmott said.

“Kade Klemke will be playing with the reserves this week, as well as Christian Bock.  Christian gets his hands on a lot more ball in the reserves, and doesn’t get knocked off the ball, it’s a good learning experience for a first year player.  He’s really progressing well down there and we’ll look at him playing in the seniors in the coming weeks.""
