The trading of Andrew Lovett to St Kilda for their first round pick has attracted plenty of attention but who was the winner?
Lovett and Essendon agreed it was best to part company so a trade needed to be found but was pick No.16 a good result for the Bombers?
Last week we asked which player would you want traded to Essendon and Luke Ball won with 51.52% of the vote, Brendan Fevola was a surprise second with 23.21% from 'other' with 12.80%. Injured St Kilda tall Matt McGuire received 7.05% of votes, Andrejs Everitt attacted 3.36% and Matt Sangher just 2.06%.
Here is what some of the fans had to say:
Joel Romano from Mount Martha says: I would love to have Luke Ball at our club next year.
Nathan Paul from Hampton Park/ Vic/ Aus says: With Lloyd and Lucas gone, we need a full forward. Fevola is perfect. He says he will change his bad ways, and we don't need a another mid-fielder like Luke Ball. We have plenty (Zaharakis).
Mawbz from SA says: Luke Ball would have to be a high get for us to help out Watson in the pack, I couldn't think of anyone else that would be a better fit for this great club. To all the other clubs, you can take FEV! We don`t need him or want him.
Mozza 132 from Vic says: We should look to trade Lovett to WCE in return for a couple of younsters. Shuey and a 3 rnd pick.
Nathan from Tas says: Plz look at a big name forward Fev, Robbo, Hall we need a big goal kicker now the champ has hung up his boots.
Jasmine from Hillside Vic says: Luke Ball. great player would help out Watson!
Sam from Vic says: What about Robbo from the dees???? Would be happy with Fev tho. Without Lloyd and Lucas now we need a big forward
Andrew Dehne from Highbury/SA says: I read the news every day and still I have not heard anything about Essendon talking trade. Are our recruiting staff activity in the game or are we going to miss out on some of the talent in this years trade week? Come on Dons get pro-active.
Manuk from Vic says: Need to get Shaun Burgoyne he is the kind of player we are lacking classy skillfull @ poise, Dyson & Mcphee = Burgoyne & 3rd round pick
Roadkill from SA says: I voted other as I'd like Lovett to change his mind i.e. the grass is not always greener.........
Savio Medeira from Eltham/Vic/Australia says: We should trade Fev because then we will have 3 strong fowards to kick the ball to and our foward line will be good if we have Fev, Neagle and Scott Gumbleton. That's my opinion though Fev causes trouble but he is good player and I think the EFC can get him back on the right line.
Jake from Vic says: Brendan Fevola could help Essendon's goal kicking but I dont think he is the right kind of player we are looking for... Hurley will develop into that role along with Neagle and Gumbleton. I would like to see someone who can replace andrew lovett if he gets traded
Chris Burke from Vic says: PLEASE DO NOT GET BRENDAN FEVOLA. As good as he is on field, his off-field antics would taint the prestigious brand this football club has. One player can make a team win a game, but not a premiership. I have faith in the current young guns to do us proud, but Fev spells trouble.
Clifford Davison from Sydney/NSW says: If we can get one of Knights or Burgoyne, I would take them, however, of the players listed above, Ball would be the only player I would target. Fevola may be a gun full forward, but he is a goose off the track...also we have a group of kids that are going to play for the next 10 to 15 years that will fill that role nicely and I think this would be a slap in the face to them.
Elise from Melbourne says: We should get Ball from the Saints and give them Nash, Skipworth, Bellchambers because we need another in and under quality midfielder. And get Stokes from Geelong because we really need a player when the ball hits the deck in exchange for Lovett and Jetta.
Mark from South Yarra says: If we get Seaby from West coast. Pears, Hooker can do all the key defesive work, Hurly, Neagle and Ryder can be the key forwards. Hille may need some assistance given he is coming back from a knee reco and can be rested up forward. Seaby is looking for more ruck opportunities. WHilst Essendon fancy Ryder, it would be good if we could settle him up forward. That helps after losing Lloyd and Lucas and Bellchambers can continue to develop in the reserves and play a backup roll if needed. Laycock is also injury prone.
Edward Stunnell from Engadine, NSW says: Fevola for sure. With the departure of Lloyd and Lucas we need a forward. Perfect timing for the Bombers. Give him a couple of years and the next Bombers will be ready to slot in. We would be mad not to try for Fevola and I bet we have the cap and cash to fit him in.
Big Ben from Bendigo says: I think that giving the Saints Andrew Lovett and our second round pick for Mat Maguire and Luke Ball wouldn't be out of the question. Would be a win-win for both clubs.
Rob from Perth says: Ryan O'Keefe would be handy.
Joseph Attard from Taylors Hill says: Luke Ball of course. The other options I can't see at Essendon, but Ball, a quality midfielder who can lead from the front. A very welcomed addition to Windy Hill in 2010.
Colin Duck from Armadale, Victoria says: Let's try and get Josh Kennedy from Hawthorn. I think he's got great potential and his bloodlines are impeccable. Imagine him working with Jobe around the clearances.
Daniel from South Melbourne says: Luke Ball would be great. Watson, Ball, Prismall. Great midfield.
Tezz from Moonee Ponds says: None of those guys are worth the bother, we need someone like Josh Gibson or Rick Ladson and perhaps even chase Mark Blake from Geelong. We need another tall and he would be a ready made ruckman.
Barry from Werribee says: It shouldn't matter how old Fev is, he still is young enough for at least a 5 yr contract, and if we should trade Lovett, Luke Ball would be really good but also Ryan O'Keefe or Dalzeill, oh even Jay Nash for Andrew Raines would be a good trade. I see him a very decent runner of half back.
Graham Flynn from Essendon says: I voted ""other"" because I'd like to see us get Rischitelli from the Lions, or perhaps Burgoyne if the Hawthorn deal falls over, but would be happy to get Luke Ball. We need a quality midfielder and I've got a slight preference for Rischitelli and Burgoyne because of the pace element.
Dion from VIC says: Luke Ball please, and anyone but Fevola!
Gareth from Tas says: Luke Ball is the only one worth looking at in that list...... The rest are just a waste of time especially Fevola. Lovett for Ball what a dream... Lets make sure we get this right and get a fair deal for Lovett
Shayne from Geelong says: Apart from the hefty price tag, how could any club not want the coleman medalist. Fev is good for another 2 years at least, that's a good window of time for Hurley/Neagle to really develop. Surely a change of club would be enough to make Fev wake up to himself.
Alan McCready from Melton South / Vic says: Running tall half-Back flanker, someone who can play defence / attack Spangher & Everitt fit the bill, so does Marcus Drum.
James from Mentone says: Why would we want Ball? Once the ""Pris"" has had a full preseason under his belt he will be a better recruit than Ball ever will. If we are losing Lovett we need some pace. I think Nathan Brown injury free would help us if he is fit... we need to create goals and he will no doubt help.
Graham Edgar from Berwick, Vic says: The day that Fevola puts on an Essendon Jersey is the day I will walk away from the club after 50 years as a supporter.
James Brown from Berwick, Vic says: Brenden Fevola would obviously help out our forward line. he can help our young forwards develop while still kicking lots of goals. Shaun Burgoyne is obviously another player we would be lucky to have. add some class to our midfield and some polished foot skills to a side that could use it. any other smooth moving players that can use the ball well (ie aaron davey) are players we need. we need polished skills.
Russell House from South Morang says: I think we should have a big crack at Matt Spangher, he is Vic boy who wants to come home, barracked for the Bombers, he's young, he's big and has a lot of potential. With Spangher in the Backline, Ryder or Hurley could go forward.
Clinton from Caulfield says: I think a good trade for Lovett would be to try lure Jarred Brennan. His speed and agility, combined with his marking power is exactly what our club needs leading out of the goal square. I was happy to hear on SEN that the club definitely won't be dealing for Fevola.
Shane-o from East Mackay/QLD says: Fevola is a must have for 2010 and beyond, after losing both Lloyd and Lucas we need a power forward that can kick bags of goals and who better then the reigning Coleman medalist! Fev kicked as many goals as our top 3 goal kickers put together last year, with that kind of firepower who knows where we could have finished last season.
