Victoria completely outplayed South Australia in cold and wet conditions to record a 54 point victory, 17.19.121 to 10.7.67.The Vics skills were on show and the poor conditions did not stop them piling on 17 goals in front of a disappointing crowd of just over 26,000.

Brent Harvey played a fantastic game up forward, kicking 5 goals and being awarded the E J Whitten medal for best Victorian player. Matthew Lloyd was also good up forward, kicking 3 goals and taking some good marks in the rain.

The only other Essendon player involved, Sean Wellman, didn't spend as much time on the field as Matthew, but the two lined up on each other in the last quarter. We would have to say that the honours were probably shared for the short time they played on each other.

The game was played at a remarkably high standard given the poor weather, and Victoria's on ballers took control early in the match through Brad Johnson, Scott West, Gary Hocking and Brett Ratten.

The other important news for Bomber fans to come out of the match was an ankle injury to Adelaide Crow Nigel Smart. He is in doubt for the game this week against the Bombers, when we travel to Adelaide on Friday night.
