There was a huge sigh of relief in the Essendon rooms tonight as they finally registered their first win of the season, outlasting a fast finishing Hawthorn to win by two points at the MCG this afternoon. The Bombers very nearly gave up a five-goal lead for the second consecutive week before steadying late in the game to hold on to victory.
He may be just under six-foot tall and some might describe him as being built like a clothes peg, but Andrew Lovett made a big impact at the MCG this afternoon. The 22-year-old playing his first senior game for the Bombers spent the first quarter looking on from the bench but when introduced in the second quarter he showed what an exciting prospect he is.
