Essendon supporters say Mark McVeigh has found his niche in defence after his excellent form down back in 2003. They felt McVeigh’s ability to shut down opposition small forwards combined with his excellent foot skills made him a very important player for the Bombers. Robert Shaw’s thoughts:
Mark has taken a very big step in his career this season. He has basically swapped places with Mark Johnson to get Mark into the mid-field. He has found himself under extreme pressure against some of the best small forwards in the competition. He has done a very good job and become a consistent and hardened AFL player that is now approaching 100 games. We would expect this level of performance next season.
