Essendon faces selection headaches in the lead up to Monday’s ANZAC Day blockbuster clash, with a number of key senior players impressing in yesterday’s VFL match.

General manager of football operations, Paul Hamilton said despite the loss of key runners Jason Winderlich and Courtenay Dempsey against Carlton on Saturday, the depth of the Bombers’ list would provide positive selection dilemmas for the coaches during the course of the week.

“We’ve got a lot of options coming in to what is a massive game against Collingwood in this week’s ANZAC Day game.”

“The reality is the game is worth four points like any other week but there will be opportunities for players to step up,” Hamilton said.

“We believe we’ve got depth in the team to cover our big losses.”

Hamiton told Bomber.tv players including David Hille, Andrew Welsh and Henry Slattery were all impressive in yesterday's Bendigo Bombers’ VFL match and would push for selection this week.

“We also had a number of guys including Alwyn Davey, Kyle Reimers, Michael Hibberd and Ricky Dyson who all made significant contributions,” Hamilton said.

“We saw David Hille play a good strong game which was very encouraging. He took quite a few marks and was pretty ferocious with his tackling.”

Injured duo Jason Winderlich and Courtenay Dempsey will visit surgeons early next week to discuss a range of surgical options for their longer-term careers.

“The types of surgery will be discussed amongst the surgeon, doctors and the players themselves, although we think the traditional surgery would be the way to go,” Hamilton said.

“If there is any bonus to these injuries, it is that both those boys will be able to do their rehab together and they will be able to support and assist each other through what will be an arduous process.""

In pleasing news for the Club, Darcy Daniher has recently made a return to full training after overcoming a lingering quad concern, and looks set to make a return to the VFL competition within the coming weeks.

“Darcy’s is in full training at the moment which is very encouraging.”

“We’re probably not expecting him to play this week but most likely the week after next we would think,” Hamilton told BomberTV.
