Since 2016, the Essendon and Geelong Football Clubs have competed in the annual Country Round clash, a celebration game highlighting the connections that both clubs share to regional and rural communities.

From Gary Ablett Sr. to the Daniher brothers, to this year’s ambassadors Darcy Parish and Tom Hawkins, these two clubs have deep roots that spread right throughout country Victoria.

This year, the focus is on regional football clubs, and how important they are to their respective communities. These football clubs are often the heartbeat of a town, bringing together an array of different individuals.

To acknowledge the role country football clubs play for our great game and to truly bring the country to the city, Essendon has given away thousands of free tickets to regional Victorian football clubs for this Sundays game.

Celebrate regional footy with us at the pre-game Country Festival will be held outside the ‘G in the Yarra Park Precinct, which will include entertainment, an animal farm, food trucks and plenty of other activities for the whole family to enjoy.

The site will open at 11am, so make sure you get in early to check it out before heading inside the ground to watch the blockbuster clash.
