The Bendigo Bombers have capped off a miserable weekend for the Essendon Football Club, losing their second game of the season to Frankston this afternoon. The Bombers lost by 12 points after trailing by four points going into the final change. Bendigo is still in second place on the VFL courtesy of an excellent percentage and it also has a game in hand compared to the third and fourth placed sides.

The Bombers struggled to find an avenue to goal with Callum Beasy the only multiple goal kicker – he finished the day with two. But Bendigo’s problems came further up the field with turnovers costing the side dearly. Bendigo had 50 more possessions than the opposition but turned it over 34 times compared with Frankston’s 18.

""Turnovers were basically the difference. We certainly had enough of the ball to win the game but skill errors cost us,"" Bendigo coach Matthew Knights said. ""It really wasn’t a great day for us.""

Courtney Johns continued his return to football and again got through unscathed. ""He played about 80 minutes. He didn’t get a lot of it but I think the most pleasing aspect was that he had a very heavy tumble (on his hip) and he got through it. He is still getting used to playing football again and we need to be patient with him.""

Best players for Bendigo were Ben Jolley, Tristan Cartledge, Henry Slattery, Sam Hunt, Joel Reynolds and Angus Monfries.
