Essendon assistant coach Dean Wallis has only just began the process of moulding the Bomber’s draft selections into AFL footballers but he is more than pleased with what he has seen thus far. ""They have been at the club less than a month but the signs have been pretty good. I think Essendon supporters have a lot to look forward to this year and beyond,"" Wallis said.

We asked Wallis to give us his early impressions of the Essendon draftees.

Patrick Ryder

""His nickname is Polly (after the great Geelong ruckman Graeme ""Polly"" Farmer). He is showing some very promising signs in the ruck and he has great hands. He is a really exciting talent. He has a long way to go in terms of strength but when you look at his raw natural ability you can’t but be excited by what the future could hold,"" Wallis said.

Courtenay Dempsey

""He is a cheeky young lad but in a good way. He has a bit of character about him, a lot like Andrew Lovett. They certainly have similar speed – if you lined them up over 100 metres the finish would be tight. He is lightly framed so strength is something he needs to work on. For a kid that hasn’t been in the system that long his skills are at the right level.""

""He is a real bulldog this young fellow and reminds me a little bit of a young Jason Johnson. He has everything you want in a young player in that above all, he is desperate to make it. His work ethic is terrific, he is super competitive and hard around contests.""
