Essendon has secured the future of one of its emerging stars, with exciting forward Nate Caddy signing a two-year contract extension which will see him in the red and black until at least the end of 2028.
Standing at 193cm, the 19-year-old from Yarrambat joined the Bombers with pick No. 10 in the 2023 AFL National Draft. Since then, Caddy has turned heads with his natural flair and ability to impact games.
Making his AFL debut in the 2024 Dreamtime at the ‘G clash against Richmond, Caddy played 10 games in his debut season and snared a Rising Star nomination in just his eighth AFL game, kicking three goals from 15 disposals and taking six marks in a breakout match against Gold Coast in round 22 that year.
After a big 2025 pre-season, Caddy has played every match this year and is currently leading the Club’s goalkicking with 14 goals from the past 12 matches, proving his capability of competing against some of the best defenders in the game.
Caddy earned a second career Telstra AFL Rising Star nomination for a game-breaking display against Sydney in round nine, joining fellow Bomber youth in Archie Roberts and Angus Clarke as nominees for the award from this campaign.
With his high-flying marks, instinctive goal sense and athleticism already drawing comparisons to the likes of Lance Franklin and Charlie Curnow, Caddy has cemented his reputation as one of the competition’s most exciting emerging talents.
Caddy shared how grateful he is for the two-year contract extension and how excited he is for the future of the Dons.
"From day one when taken at pick 10 by the Bombers, I’ve always felt that trust and belief from everyone at the Club, so it’s super exciting and rewarding to be offered the two-year contract extension,” Caddy said.
"We’ve got such a tight-knit group at the Club. The senior group really lead the way and drive us to work harder and be better, and we have the younger guys who provide plenty of energy, hunger and fun. It’s great having a mix of both.
“This season has been a good learning curve, especially for us young guys. We are all hungry to be better and succeed. We can see the direction we're heading, and we know we’re building towards something special.
"To continue playing in front of the Bomber fans is unreal, there’s nothing quite like playing in front of them. Every time we run out, they’re always there, and it really drives us as a playing group. I hope to give the fans plenty more goals to cheer about over the coming years.
In the Dons' close encounter against Brisbane at the Gabba this year, Caddy delivered one of the moments of the 2025 season and a Goal of the Year contender with an incredible over-the-head effort, leaving fans and commentators alike in awe of the fun and flair that he can bring into a game.
It’s not just Caddy’s on-field performances that impress - it's his attitude and infectious personality which have made him a valued member of the Club and fanbase. His commitment to learning from those around him and to have fun whilst doing so reflects the culture and values within Essendon.
Essendon General Manager - List & Recruiting Matt Rosa shared his excitement over having Caddy extend his time at the Bombers, eager to see what he can achieve.
“Beyond his special talent, Nate is a quality individual and teammate. He brings great energy and drive to be the best he can be and we're excited to continue to assist Nate with his development as both a player and person," Rosa said.
“It has been great to see a strong young core complementing our senior group, led by Nate. Bomber fans should be excited about the future ahead as Nate and our emerging youth continue to grow."
