The Essendon Football Club can confirm that during the Pre-Season Practice Match against North Melbourne on Saturday, Maddison Gay suffered an injury to her left knee whilst laying a tackle in the second quarter.

Gay was removed from the game and later received a scan to determine the extent of the injury.

The scan confirmed Gay suffered a strain to her anterior cruciate ligament that will require rehabilitation over the coming weeks.

The Club will continue to provide updates on Gay’s return-to-play timeline and recovery as it progresses.
