Essendon could be boosted by the return of star ruck Steph Wales for its meeting with Geelong at Windy Hill on Sunday afternoon.

Just over 10 months on from an ACL injury last season, the 22-year-old has made stellar progress in her recovery and has been named in the extended squad for a key clash, as the Dons aim to improve to 4-0 for the season.

Speedy draftee Sophie Strong also enters the extended squad after recovering from a respective injury setback, one of two uncapped Dons including Grace Brooker looking to break into the final team.

Mia Van Dyke rounds out the potential inclusions, as Daria Bannister is set to miss with a hand injury.

The Bombers take on the Cats from 3:05pm AEST on Sunday.
