Essendon have announced that Grace Brooker will make her AFLW debut in Perth this Saturday against Fremantle.

The announcement marks the Bombers’ ninth Club debutant of the season, with the team informed ahead of Thursday’s main training session.

No stranger to the big stage, Brooker made national appearances playing Rugby Union for the New Zealand Black Ferns.

When contemplating the move to AFLW, Brooker connected with Senior Coach Natalie Wood. After developing a strong relationship with Wood and the broader team, Brooker made the move to the NEC Hangar and was signed as Essendon’s first ever rookie.

The versatile athlete quickly became a role model within the group, with her professional experience proving invaluable.

After learning the ropes during pre-season, Brooker has shown pure dedication to learning the game, ultimately earning her a spot on the team.

Raring to go, Brooker expresses her gratitude and excitement for the opportunity.

“I am so honoured to be part of such a great group and to make my debut with them this weekend,” Brooker said.

“I can’t express how amazing the team have been, the coaches and staff, they have all welcomed me with open arms. They have been so patient with me whilst I have further developed my footy skills.

“To Don the sash this weekend is pretty special, as there is such a strong history around it. When I put the guernsey on, it will feel like I’m putting on a superhero cape.”
