Essendon Football Club has today revealed its 2025 AFLW Pride Guernsey, designed in partnership with the club’s official LGBTQIA+ supporter group, the Purple Bombers.
The guernsey will be worn by the Bombers’ AFLW side during the upcoming Pride Rounds against the Western Bulldogs in Round 9 and against the Brisbane Lions in Round 10 reinforcing the club’s commitment to inclusion, visibility, and unity.
Celebrating LGBTQIA+ symbols
Central to the design are the symbols representing the LGBTQIA+ community, including non-binary, asexual, bisexual, intersex, transgender, gay male, and lesbian communities provided by the Purple Bombers.
The symbols have been thoughtfully incorporated into the iconic red sash, blending tradition with a bold message of inclusion.
Honouring the Purple Bombers’ 10-year anniversary
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Purple Bombers, a milestone in the club’s journey to make football a safe and welcoming space for all.
To commemorate the occasion, the names of every paid contributor to the Purple Bombers since its inception along with a number of Essendon staff and players who have championed the cause have been proudly featured in the guernsey design.
It is a gesture that recognises the individuals whose dedication has shaped the inclusive culture that Essendon continues to build today.
