Georgia Nanscawen just keeps on keeping on.

The tough midfielder has had arguably her most consistent and productive season to date in 2025, finishing equal seventh in the AFLW league Best and Fairest count after polling 13 votes and shaping as one of the favourites to take home Club Best and Fairest honours this week.

Reflecting on a year that had unexpected challenges alongside valuable lessons, Nanscawen looks back at the season with optimism for the future.

Nanscawen on... consistency

Despite the losses, we saw some really great glimpses during the season on how we want to play as an Essendon team moving forward.

There were moments throughout the year, especially against some of those top sides, where we showed we can genuinely match it, but consistency proved to be what was missing.

As a team, we always want to be a challenging the opposition, week in and week out. That is a key focus for us moving forward.

Nanscawen on… navigating challenges and staying connected

It’s a really big test of culture when you come up against challenging times.

It has been a big credit to our team though, we stayed really connected throughout the whole season, and that will help us even more so moving forward.

Despite losing, there was still a lot to play for - pride, consistency, and demonstrating our Bombers brand. The connection in the group never wavered.

Nanscawen on… the impact of new talent

The exposure we’ve been able to give players this season has been fantastic.

We’ve now seen glimpses of their talent at the highest level (Grace Belloni, Taya Chambers, Holly Ridewood etc.), and it makes it really exciting for the future.

All of our debutants really applied themselves both on-field and off-field, and that connection has come together really naturally.

Nanscawen on... personal reflections and growth

You always view your season through the lens of the team performance, but outside of that, I try to provide what I can from an individual performance as well.

No matter wins or losses, I always want to keep driving standards and continuing to develop as a player.

To continue being the best player I can be, over the off-season I’m looking forward to a short mental and physical break to reset.

I’ll then be ready to attack the 2026 pre-season.

Nanscawen on… memorable moments

The comeback win against West Coast in Round 2 at Windy Hill was one of my favourite moments of the season.

Coming from behind in the final minutes and sealing the game in front of a home crowd was unreal.

Dreamtime in Darwin was once against extremely special. It is such a great occasion, the cultural experience and playing in Darwin is amazing.

And of course, getting the win over Richmond was huge.

Nanscawen on… looking ahead to 2026

Bigger and better things are to come in 2026, you can feel it across the whole Club.

We are all excited to crack into the new season, I can’t wait.
