The Essendon Football Club is thrilled to announce that Luke Meehan will be joining the AFLW program as Head of High Performance.
Meehan has over 20 years of experience in the AFL industry, working across men’s programs at Geelong, the Western Bulldogs and Richmond.
Throughout his professional career so far, Meehan has developed a strong understanding of the demands of the game and built a vast skillset in sport science, rehabilitation and strength and conditioning programming.
His most recent position at the Tigers as AFL High Performance Manager combined his deep knowledge in the high-performance space and his influential leadership skills, making him an exciting fit for the Dons’ AFLW senior leadership team.
Meehan is excited to join the Bombers and play an important role in the AFLW program.
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Essendon and to be part of the AFLW program,” Meehan said.
“The Club has a clear vision for where it wants to go, and I’m looking forward to working with coaches and the medical staff to help our players prepare to perform consistently at their best.”
Essendon’s AFLW General Manager Aysha Ward said the appointment reflects the Club’s continued commitment to investing in high performance outcomes for the program.
“Luke brings an exceptional level of experience and leadership to our AFLW program,” Ward said.
“His understanding of elite performance environments and his ability to build strong connections across the Club will be invaluable to us.
“We are extremely excited to have him on board and can’t wait to see the impact he will have on those around him.”
Meehan has commenced his role at the Club, already bringing his expertise and understanding of the game to the program.
