Essendon is excited to announce that RAAF Ambassador and former Nursing Officer Bek Herron will lead our scarf wave in the minute before the first bounce on Anzac Day.

Herron served with the Royal Australian Air Force Nursing Service for 21 years. In addition to service in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, she worked on aero-medical evacuations in the Middle East, bringing wounded service members out of conflict zones including Afghanistan and Iraq.

Since leaving the RAAF she has worked as an artist. Her work, focused on the impact of service, is currently being exhibited at the Australian National Veterans Art Museum.

She has two children and is a lifelong supporter of the Essendon Football Club, part of a special Q&A panel when the Club kicked off its week at the Shrine of Remembrance.

“You guys are amazing role models, and you have such an opportunity to influence people in just the really gentle ways. You would have seen that, all the kids looking at you in awe on the way in,” Herron said addressing the Club.

“This is your opportunity, they'll look to you and they'll follow in what you do.

“I want you to carry the gravity with this match. It's so important to people in defence.”

Essendon's scarf wave will begin at 3:19pm AEST from the MCG on Saturday.
