Both the Essendon and Melbourne Football Clubs will wear guernseys this weekend in honour of a legacy that bleeds red and black and beats red and blue, the legacy of Neale Daniher.
A beloved figure at both clubs, Neale’s impact on Australian football, and his fight against motor neurone disease, has inspired people across the country and around the world.
This Saturday, for Round 14 at the MCG, both Essendon and Melbourne will wear guernseys featuring Neale’s initial’s on the front and his powerful mantra, Play On, on the back.
The match-worn guernseys from both clubs will be auctioned following the game, with all proceeds going directly to FightMND. The auction will go live at 6:00pm on Thursday 11 June with a link to the auction page to be shared via social media and web once live.
Leading into Saturday’s match, fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 12:45pm to take part in a special pre-match tribute. The tribute will celebrate Neale’s incredible contribution to football and the lasting impact he continues to have on so many lives.
The pre-match commemoration will feature tributes to Neale’s playing and coaching career, along with special appearances from Essendon and Melbourne greats who will deliver rev-ups inspired by ‘The Reverend’ himself. Fans will also be invited to join in a sing along of Mr Brightside - one of Neale’s favourite songs.
