For Marc Bullen, 2004 was very similar to 2003 despite his drop in ranking amongst Bomber supporters. He played 17 games (one more than 2003), only just failing to get as much of the ball as he did the previous season. Bomber fans have overwhelmingly suggested that Bullen needs more time to develop – and the only way he can do that they believe is by spending more time on the ground.

“Great player who has been hard done by for chances to really prove himself. Has got so much potential, excellent disposal and vision as well as hard running. His game in the semi final against Geelong kept Essendon competitive.”
Clancy Merrett

“Marc had probably a poor year by his standards. Has the capacity to be a regular midfielder, with a good pre-season over the coming months I am sure we will see a lot more of Marc Bullen.”
Luke Werner

“Played several good games but probably did not have an impact in enough of his 17 games. Has a bit of experience now so needs to try and get his hand on the ball 20 times a game in 2005.”
Duncan Young

“Worked hard all year but just couldn't quite break games open when he had the chance. Needs to lift around stoppages and make his disposals count.”
Paul Shelbourn

“Can be very good but hasn’t stepped up enough. Played well in the Geelong final. Can be good but probably doesn’t spend enough time on the field or in the right position.”
Marc Seen

“Is developing to be a good centre line player, taking over the role Misiti played. Put in some very good games. Was used a lot off the bench. More game time in 2005 will assist his development.”
Robert Murray

“Just lacks something. This is surely a combination of lack of game time, body size and decision making. 2005 is a make or break year.”
Tim Bourke

“Marc can obviously play at the elite level but looks to be a little lost at times. Perhaps another pre-season and the realisation that he belongs in the top 22 players will bring the best out of him week in and week out.”
