Former Richmond player Ty Zantuck will swap his yellow sash for a red one in season 2005 after Essendon took him with selection six at today’s pre-season draft. Zantuck, 22, will be a valuable addition to the Essendon defence according to coach Kevin Sheedy. ""He will give us a good solid back pocket player that will enable us to release a Mark Johnson or perhaps a Mark McVeigh into the midfield,"" Sheedy said.

""In some ways we have now got back into the 1999 draft from which we were disqualified with Damian Cupido and Ty Zantuck both coming out of that draft.""

Essendon’s number one draft pick, 17-year old Angus Monfries, will play senior football for the Bombers next year, according to former Footscray player and AIS coach Terry Wheeler. ""Despite his age, he has the intelligence and the physical capacity to play senior football in 2005,"" Wheeler said.
