Emerging Bomber defender Tayte Pears left Epworth hospital early this afternoon and is making a speedy recovery from an operation on his pancreas.
The 20-year-old has been able to walk around his hospital room for the past two days and is happy to now be able to recover at home.
Club doctor Bruce Reid said the 191cm West Australian has recovered exceptionally well after a traumatic first two or three days.
He damaged his pancreas in the first quarter of Friday night's loss to Hawthorn.
""The first few days after the injury were very tough for him and the family,"" Reid said.
""But, being fit and young has definitely added his recovery and he is doing very well.""
Reid said the situation remains that Pears can't do any real physical activity for six weeks which includes no upper body weights or running.
""It is a strict order from the surgeon that Tayte doesn't do any physical activity for six weeks,"" he said.
""He has lost about five kilograms in weight as he couldn't take solids for the first six days but we expect him to put that weight back on quickly.
Pears has been looked after by his mum and other family members who travelled to Melbourne.
""They weren't there for the first 48 hours and he has been very happy to have them here since,"" Reid said.
The pick No.23 in the 2007 National Draft hasn't give up hope of returning to the field this year but is more focused on simply getting back to full health.
""If we look like playing finals this year he could still be available,"" Reid said.
""He is unlikely to play before the next nine weeks though because of general fitness and strength.""
