ESSENDON ruckman David Hille is still no certainty to be available for the Bombers' round one clash with Geelong next year as he continues to recover from a knee reconstruction.
Hille, 28, had season-ending surgery after his anterior cruciate ligament snapped against Collingwood in round five.
While he is currently training well, the ruckman will miss the NAB Cup is not a certain starter to meet the Cats on March 26.
"He's progressed from doing a lot of straight-line running to a lot more football activities," assistant coach Ashley Prescott said on Friday. "Today he was out there diving around, getting back off the ground and doing a lot of those movements that replicate the game.
"He's tracking pretty well [for round one]. They'll make sure he just ticks the boxes that he needs to tick.
"With the program he's got, he just needs to reach certain milestones. If he achieves that, he could be a chance but we'll certainly make sure he's achieved all those."
Young forward Michael Hurley was sporting a fresh cast on his wrist at the Windy Hill session after undergoing minor surgery to remove pins.
The 19-year-old's wrist was initially operated on in May but he required some follow-up work at the end of the season.
"The specialist was extremely happy with the way it's going," Prescott said. "Unfortunately for him, he's pretty frustrated because they've put it back in the cast but that was pretty much because they don't trust his teammates around him and he might get a knock on it.
"He's been actually involved in most of the football sessions too and he hasn't missed a beat.
"When he comes back he should be really ready from a running point of view. He'll just need to get a bit more conditioning in his arm."
The Bombers will return to Coffs Harbour next week for a strategy camp similar to the one they attended this time last year.
Prescott said the camp would cover both the side's attacking and defensive game plans as well as allow the players to get away together before the festive season.
"We'll practice all the things that we've been practising during the pre-season so far," he said. "It will be great to get away leading into Christmas; it freshens the guys up and hopefully we'll get some good weather.
"We really want to marry both defence and attack up. A good defence helps your attack and a good attack helps your defence too.
"It's really about combining, which is where we're at in our third year. Matthew [Knights] is really keen to continue to improve our game style."
Every player will attend the camp with the exception of those recruited in Tuesday's NAB AFL Pre Season and Rookie Drafts.
