The imminent return of Matthew Lloyd could be just the tonic the Bombers need to get back into winning form, according to Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy.

The Bombers have lost their past three games and undone some excellent early-season form. This Saturday afternoon's clash against an improved Brisbane outfit is critical if their season is to remain on track.

“I would really hope to see him back this week because it is a bonus for any football supporter to see him out there, in particular Essendon fans,"" Sheedy said.

“He has only been around for about 15 hours in the last two years so it is a big thing for him to return because he is a very good player and I’m sure he will be able to help us climb back into the eight.""

“You miss a great player like that and I think that people don’t realise it until he is gone but I’m sure the players know quite well and want to see him come back playing and finding some form.""

Lloyd is unlikely to be the only change to the Essendon line-up with Sheedy suggesting a replenished stock of players will create the selection pressure the Bombers need in order to be real contenders this season.

“We are only one game out of the eight and we have got four players back in the last seven days,"" Sheedy said.

“We still have every chance of being a good side this year and anything could happen in the next month. We might surprise you.”

But despite holding high expectations for the year ahead, Sheedy was again left to defend his 27-year reign as Essendon Coach amid speculations that his contract may not be renewed at the season’s end.

The footballing mastermind laughed off media speculation and has asked the media to put things into perspective with more than half the season still remaining.
