General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said the Club would closely monitor Pears throughout the week, after he sustained the fracture during the Bombers' 74-point loss to Carlton.

“The x-rays have revealed just a minor hairline fracture,” Hamilton said.

“He has a hairline fracture in his lower leg bone and it’s only a very slight one. The reality is he is going to miss two weeks but the positive news is that he could well be available after those two weeks.

“While it is one of those injuries where we will have to wait and see, it is disappointing news for the Club and particularly  for Tayte,” he said.

Bomber veteran Dustin Fletcher, who was a late withdrawal from Saturday’s clash following internal bleeding in his ankles, should be available to play this weekend.

“He was bleeding in his calf during the week, which was quite unusual and we found out very late in the week that blood had gone down to his ankles which stemmed from his calf,” Hamilton said.

“He seems like he is recovering quite well and we would be quite hopeful that he will be playing this week.”

Hamilton said the Bombers could be bolstered by the return of captain Jobe Watson for this week’s blockbuster clash against Collingwood. Watson will face fitness tests during the course of the week to determine his availability.

“It is the case with Jobe that he has to get through the week’s training and last week he wasn’t able to.

“We hope he gets through the full week. He is quite confident he will be fine and so are the doctors, physios and medical staff- so we would expect him to play,” he said.

Hamilton ruled out key midfielder Heath Hocking’s availability this week, but said the Club would monitor his recovery and rehabilitation.

“Heath was another late withdrawal. Again, he was fine earlier in the week and then after our main training session he pulled up quite sore in his foot,"" Hamilton told BomberTV.

“It’s one of those ones where we will have to be guided by our medical team. I think he is in extreme doubt for this week but he may be available the following week.”

Bomber defender Cale Hooker will be sidelined for a further three weeks after re-injuring his hamstring during a training session last week.

“Cale has re-injured his hamstring and that means he will be out for another three to four weeks. Michael Hibberd also has a minor hamstring strain but he is recovering well and shouldn’t be too far away,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton added Bomber veterans Andrew Welsh and Nathan-Lovett Murray could make a return to the field as early as this week after making a return to full training.

“Woosha is travelling reasonably well and while I wouldn’t expect him to be back this week, all things going well, we would hope he can return the following week.

“Nathan Lovett-Murray is an outside chance to return this week, but if we’re being realistic he would probably be available the following week as well.,“ Hamilton said.
