A scan has revealed that Essendon captain James Hird has not injured a groin muscle and is still a chance to play this weekend. Hird left the field last Saturday with groin soreness and scans have revealed a minor tendon strain rather than the a more serious muscle injury. ""You would much rather that than the muscle,"" Essendon's football manager Matthew Drain said. ""He will do some running tomorrow and provided he pulls up well we still think he will play on the weekend.""

All Essendon supporters are invited to farewell club legend Dick Reynolds at Windy Hill this Friday at noon. The funeral of Essendon's greatest ever player will be held at St Pauls Cathedral in the city at 10.15am on Friday. The cortege will then leave St Pauls and travel up Napier Street to Windy Hill. Weather permitting the hearse will also drive onto Windy Hill, doing a lap of the centre square (weather permitting) before pausing in front of the Dick Reynolds Stand. The family will then accompany the hearse to a private burial.
