In a major blow for the Bombers, Andrew Welsh has become Essendon’s first casualty after straining his hamstring in last weekend’s clash with Fremantle.
The strain couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Essendon utility who has made the most of the opportunity to move up the ground this year and is settling into his new role in the Bomber midfield.
He is expected to undertake a modified training program and should resume full training in about three weeks.
Despite Welsh’s bad news, Essendon’s injury list is looking relatively sparse with only Jay Nash (foot) and Nathan Lovett-Murray (groin) yet to overcome their respective injury concerns.
And in better news for the Bombers, Jason Johnson is likely to resume in the VFL this week after recovering from an operation on his toe.
