Sydney has put an end to St Kilda’s 10-game winning streak when they beat the top of the table Saints this afternoon at the SCG. Carlton scored the other major upset of the Round when they defeated Adelaide in a heart stopper at AAMI Stadium yesterday.

Collingwood made it three straight wins on Friday night when they defeated West Coast. The Pies got across the line by 18-points at The Dome and the win puts them just one game shy of the top eight. Collingwood’s victory was soured with an ankle injury to vice captain Anthony Rocca.

After leading by one point at the major break, the wheels feel off Richmond in the second half. The Kangaroos unleashed on the Tigers after half-time and booted 17 goals to their opponent’s five. Sav Rocca enjoyed a return to form and finished with eight goals in a best on ground performance.

Without doubt the most talked about game of the round was between Essendon and Hawthorn and it had nothing to do with the football. A third quarter brawl involving the majority of the 36 players on the ground dominated headlines over the weekend. After the brawl boiled over Essendon piled on seven goals and went out to an uncatchable 74-point lead. Matthew Lloyd starred up forward and finished with seven goals.

Brisbane proved they are still a force to be reckoned with when they easily accounted for Port Adelaide. Brisbane led all game and the final result never looked in doubt. Nigel Lappin and Simon Black were the standouts of the Lions victory. The pair notched up 52 possessions between them. The final margin was 37-points.

Carlton scored the surprise victory of the round when they upset Adelaide at home yesterday. In an outstanding personal performance, Brendan Fevola booted 7.1, including the winning goal. Fevola took a mark on the boundary line in the dying minutes of the game and was awarded the mark despite discussions between the boundary and field umpire. Fevola booted the goal from 50m out on the boundary to secure Carlton’s three point victory.

Geelong continued their impressive form this season with a 46-point win against the Western Bulldogs. It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Cats. The Bulldogs took it up to the Cats and to coach Mark Thompson’s delight, his side responded on the scoreboard and booted 10 goals to three after half-time. The Cats have now won six of their past eights games and are in good shape at the half-way mark of the season.

Sydney came out firing against the undefeated Saints and booted four goals to one in the opening term. Sydney kept control of the game for the remainder of the afternoon and ran out comfortable 46-point winners. Leo Barry took the honours on Fraser Gehrig and kept the star full forward scoreless. Jared Crouch nullified Stephen Milne’s influence on the game and down the other end of the ground, Barry Hall booted five goals for the victors.

Melbourne and Fremantle completed Round 11 this afternoon at Subiaco. The Demons booted 6.7 in the final term and kept Fremantle scoreless, to win by 31-points. Peter Vardy kicked three goals in as many minutes in the final term to help set up the Demons’ victory.
