RATE MERCURI'S SEASON
Mark Mercuri would have been disappointed with his season. Again he was hampered by injury and when he did play spent a lot of time on the bench. His best game for the season was in Round 8 against Hawthorn, where he was the Bombers' top possession winner - finishing with two goals and 22 touches. Mercuri was dropped from the seniors in the first round of the finals and did not return for the remainder of the season.

The 29-year-old has two more years remaining on his five-year contract and he will be determined to repay the club's faith in 2004.
Essendon’s chances of pushing back into the top four next season received a huge boost this afternoon with news that Scott Lucas has re-signed with the club. Lucas signed a three-year deal – the first of which will see him become eligible for life membership. Lucas was in outstanding form last season, particularly at centre half-back and many felt he was unlucky to miss All Australian selection. Lucas joins Sean Wellman, Matthew Lloyd and Mark Johnson as recent re-signings with the Bombers.
